Sales of seat belt plugs in Russia grew by a third

At the end of 2024, 291.5 thousand seatbelt plugs worth more than RUB 84.5 million were sold on two popular marketplaces in Russia. This is evidenced by the data of the Moneyplace service (part of the Kontur ecosystem), which were reviewed by Izvestia.
Compared to 2023, sales of seatbelt plugs increased by a third. Thus, during this period, 195 thousand such devices were sold on marketplaces, Russians paid 57.2 million rubles for them. The average check for the year rose from 283 to 292 rubles.
Earlier in the day, Izvestia reported that Russia may ban the sale of plugs for seat belts in the car, as well as various overlays and adapters for them. The corresponding bill was drafted by deputies of the party "Just Russia - For Truth" (SRZP) together with the National Automobile Union (the text of the document is at the disposal of the editorial board).
Another bill, also drafted by SRZP deputies, provides for stricter liability for unbuckled seat belts. Amendments to the CAO (the document is also available to "Izvestia") suggest increasing the fine for this violation from the current Br1.5 thousand to Br3 thousand.
On February 19, vice-president of the National Automobile Union (NAU) Anton Shaparin said that Russia should increase responsibility for deliberate refusal to wear seat belts. It is necessary to consider the possibility of amendments to the legislation, which would force the injured drivers, if they did not wear seat belts and suffered in an accident, to pay for medical services at their own expense, said the interlocutor.
