People's Artist of Russia Yury Antonov celebrates his 80th birthday on February 19. The day before, he talked to Izvestia about his creative path.
According to the artist, he sometimes went to music school as a child without enthusiasm. It was more interesting to go out with friends. However, then Antonov entered a music school, where his love for music manifested itself to the fullest extent.
"So, leisurely, went the school days, and I decided to create a small team. It had an accordion, clarinet, drums and guitar. We learned tunes and songs that were fashionable at that time. We didn't sing, but we accompanied pretty girls. I had a German accordion HOHNER, which my father brought from the front. He finished the war in Germany," he shared.
His first appearance on stage was at the Belarusian State Philharmonic in 1964. The same year the artist went on his first tour to Novosibirsk. Now among his achievements are 28 concerts in 15 days in Leningrad.
"28 concerts in two weeks at one venue - the Olympic Center in Leningrad. It had a capacity of about 14,000 spectators. We worked every day. We only had a couple of days off. I'm amazed how we could.... We didn't have any equipment back then, homemade guitar amplifiers. And how we sounded! People were clapping, everyone was greeting us!" - Antonov recalls.
