Finnish Prime Minister proposes stationing OSCE peacekeepers in Ukraine

The mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) could act as a potential peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine. Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said this in the Helsingin Sanomat(HS) newspaper on 18 February.
According to him, monitoring the ceasefire line by third-party efforts could be one option to end the conflict.
"Although there are different signals from the United States, it is absolutely necessary to strengthen transatlantic relations with our most important ally in the current situation," Orpo said.
He also emphasized that the security of not only Finland but also Europe as a whole depends on the United States.
Finland holds the OSCE chairmanship in 2025. Advising powers passed to the country in January this year.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called unacceptable the deployment of NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine. He also conveyed the corresponding position to the US side at the talks in Saudi Arabia.
