Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) may be left out of the negotiations between Russia and the USA on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. This was stated by Zoltan Košković of the Center for Fundamental Rights in a conversation with the Magyar Nemzet newspaper.

"Moscow has long not considered the current Ukrainian leader legitimate and capable of negotiations, and [US President] Donald Trump has also hinted that Zelensky is unpopular and elections should have been held in Ukraine," he said.

The expert emphasized that Ukraine could not be completely excluded from the negotiation process. However, he said, "the question arises" whether Zelensky will still be in charge of the country by the time Ukraine is able to join the discussion.

Koshkovych also pointed out that the European Union (EU) was not invited to the talks in Saudi Arabia, as the association maintains a pro-war stance.

"Trump has made it clear that these are peace talks, and no sabotage aimed at supporting the war is inappropriate here," the expert said.

TheRussian and United States delegations met at one of the royal family's palaces in Riyadh earlier in the day. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the talks very useful. According to him, the sides "not just listened, but heard each other."
