Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko said on February 18 that the United States and the Russian Federation are interested in restoring bilateral relations.

"It is obvious that the United States is interested in restoring bilateral relations, and we are interested in building long-term, reliable, mutually beneficial mutually respectful relations. Not momentary, it should be a long-term, serious strategy," she said.

According to the Speaker of the Council of Federation, both sides have lost a lot over the past three years. Matvienko noted that, according to experts' estimates, the withdrawal of the U.S. campaign from the Russian market and the termination of economic cooperation resulted in losses of about $300 billion for the United States.

"If common sense works, we can move very quickly towards correcting this absolutely negative scenario, which was conducted by the previous administration of the United States," the speaker added.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the talks between Russia and the United States in Saudi Arabia useful. The delegations agreed to set up negotiating groups on Ukraine and restore diplomatic relations.
