Russian Federation may introduce benefits for students in Russian Railways for New Year holidays

Russia may introduce additional benefits for students for travel on long-distance trains during the New Year vacations. Such a measure was supported by the Ministry of Transport in its response to the State Duma deputies, the head of the faction "Fair Russia - For Truth" Sergei Mironov and deputy chairman of the State Duma committee Yana Lantratova. They proposed to introduce a fixation of ticket prices for students during the New Year vacation.

"The Ministry of Transport of Russia within its competence supports the introduction of additional transportation benefits for students for travel by rail during the New Year vacations," reads the response, which Izvestia has.

At the same time, the ministry does not support the idea of price fixing, as it could lead to big losses for the carrier.

"It is difficult to disagree with the ministry's position. Hundreds of thousands of students study in Russian universities, many of them are from outside Russia. They would gladly buy a ticket at a discounted price to see their loved ones during the New Year vacations, but first the state must allocate money to finance this benefit," Sergei Mironov explained to Izvestia.

According to him, in order to solve the issue, the deputies propose the Ministry of Finance to provide for such expenses already this year, so that in December 2025 or January 2026 students could buy railroad tickets at a reduced price.
