The presidential election in Ukraine, which did not take place last year, may become one of the topics of discussion between the USA and Russia as part of the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict. This was stated by former US Deputy Director of National Intelligence Cliff Sims on the Fox News channel.

According to him, after the meeting with the Russian delegation, the United States plans to meet with representatives of Ukraine. Thus Cliff rejected accusations that Kiev allegedly "stayed away" from the negotiations on the end of the conflict.

He also said that currently the negotiation process is just beginning, diplomats are creating a foundation for further negotiations and starting discussions on topics related to the resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, including the possibility of holding elections in the country in the near future.

Currently, Volodymyr Zelensky, whose de jure term of office expired on May 20, 2024, is serving as Ukraine's president. On 15 February, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Zelenskyy suggested that Ukrainians who hope for a presidential election should choose another citizenship.
