Foreign Ministry says EU seeks to escalate conflict in Ukraine

The outcome of the Munich conference shows that the European Union (EU) intends to seek a forceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine rather than trying to resolve the situation peacefully. Kirill Logvinov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of International Organizations, said in his Telegram channel on February 18.
"The Munich Security Conference clearly showed that the EU is unequivocally in favor of further escalation of the Ukrainian conflict," he wrote.
As an example, the ministry spokesman cited the words of European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen, who said that Brussels preaches "peace through force."
"The Westerners' eagerness to push through another anti-Russian resolution is understandable: to avoid responsibility for the escalation by pretending that Kiev's patrons advocate multilateral diplomacy," Logvinov said.
Earlier in the day, Politico reported on the EU's €6 billion aid package for Ukraine. It is indicated that EU members will be able to provide both equipment and money for the aid package. On 16 February, the Bloomberg agency also reported that Europe would not announce a new military aid packagebefore the parliamentary election in Germany, which will be held on 23 February.
