Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired on May 20, 2024) will travel to the Saudi capital Riyadh on Wednesday, February 19, to receive information about the negotiations between the United States and Russia from Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud. This was reported by Bloomberg news agency on February 18.

"Vladimir Zelensky is scouring for scraps of second-hand information as US and Russian officials discuss the future of his country... Now he faces perhaps the biggest challenge of all - the need to avoid collusion between Trump and Putin, which could put Ukraine before a tough choice: swallow an unacceptable deal or keep fighting, but without US support," the material on the agency's website said.

The Crown Prince wanted Zelensky to take part in the talks, but the US and Russian sides insisted that the meeting be held without the Ukrainians, the agency said, citing a knowledgeable source.

The agency's source also specified that the crown prince plans to inform the Ukrainian president about the kingdom's role in convening the talks, as well as about his conversations with Russian and US officials.

Earlier, on February 18, it was reported about the beginning of bilateral talks between the delegations of Russia and the United States in Riyadh. It was noted that the Russian Federation will be represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Assistant to the President of Russia Yuri Ushakov, as well as CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev, who is responsible for the economic aspect. The U.S. delegation includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, President Donald Trump 's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and the U.S. leader's special envoy for the Middle East, Steven Whitkoff.
