Fraudsters stole 27 billion rubles from Russians in 2024

Fraudsters stole 27 billion rubles from Russians in 2024, according to the data of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (CBR), which were reviewed by Izvestia on February 18. The volume of transactions without the voluntary consent of clients increased by 74.36% compared to 2023.
"The largest volume of theft of funds was carried out on operations related to the use of remote banking systems (9,602.57 million rubles). At the same time, it should be noted that this type of transactions accounted for the largest amount of reimbursed (returned) to customers, which amounts to RUB 1,317.69 million," the regulator said.
In addition, the most common method of making transactions without voluntary consent using a mobile device is to infect it with malicious code. The use of social engineering methods (links in SMS messages, advertising on websites, etc.) significantly increases the likelihood of infection of the mobile device.
The attacker is able to make orders for money transfers, as well as notifications of money transfer transactions may not be available to the owner of the mobile device.
Earlier, on February 4, the Central Bank reported about the growing number of myths about the digital ruble. They are most often spread in social networks, and publications are supplemented with excerpts from legislation in order to inspire confidence in the reader.
