Social network X (former Twitter) has filed a lawsuit against the German government for infringement of freedom of speech and privacy of users. This was reported on February 18 by the global office of X for interaction with government agencies (Global Government Affairs).

It noted that two German organizations in the run-up to the parliamentary elections in the country filed a case against X in order to get unlimited access to data on all publications of users of the social network. In turn, the court ordered X to provide the organizations with unlimited access to this data.

In addition, Germany has filed the highest number of legal requests for X users' data within the European Union (EU), the social network's government relations department pointed out.

"X considers these requests unlawful and is already challenging them in the courts as they represent an excessive government interference with users' privacy and their right to freedom of expression," the organization said.

In August 2024, American entrepreneur Ilon Musk declared war on companies boycotting social network X, of which he is the owner. According to CNN, X sued the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) and the World Federation of Advertisers. Musk has accused them of violating antitrust laws, claiming the group conspired to boycott advertising on his platform.
