London urged Europe to take the lead on security guarantees for Ukraine

Europe should take the main position in providing security guarantees for Ukraine. This statement was made by British Defense Minister John Healey at a speech at the Institute of Public Administration on February 18.
"European countries should play a leading role in providing this guarantee, but they need support from the United States, because in the end only the United States can provide such deterrence to (Russian President Vladimir - Ed.) Putin," he said during the speech published on the website of The Independent.
Healy specified that at the moment the details on the provision of security guarantees for Ukraine are being worked out. He emphasized that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will discuss it with US President Donald Trump at the next meeting.
To discuss the details of the work, which is being done jointly with American allies, the British defense minister refused to discuss.
The head of the German concern Rheinmetall Armin Papperger said in an interview with the Financial Times that EU countries were "at the children's table" in negotiations on Ukraine. The EU is not being counted out in the settlement issue, he clarified.
Political analyst and senior lecturer at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Russian Foreign Ministry Aleksey Zudin said in an interview with Izvestiya that Russia could not allow the EU to participate in the negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict because Brussels had shown itself to be an unscrupulous participant in the Minsk agreements.
