"The Group of Seven can no longer play a constructive role on the world stage and in the current realities this association does not solve anything, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a weekly briefing on current international affairs on February 18.

The diplomat added that Russia has made its choice in favor of such associations as BRICS and SCO.

"Russia has made an unambiguous choice in favor of real mechanisms of global governance. First of all, we are talking about the BRICS and SCO formats - they represent the leading centers of economic growth and political influence in the objective reality of the emerging multipolar world. We will work there," Zakharova said.

According to her, in the current realities, the Group of Seven no longer solves anything and has completely lost its authority.

"What is called "seven" today is an outdated format, it has completely lost its authority. There is nothing to talk about any constructive role of the G7 in the context of global development and stabilization," the diplomat said.

Earlier in the day, Zakharova pointed to the nervous reaction and panic of Western countries to the negotiations between Russia and the United States. According to Zakharova, Russian-American contacts cause "hysteria" among Euro-Atlantic Russophobes. In addition, she drew attention to the imposition of Western countries' participation in the negotiation process between Washington and Moscow.
