Russians have become more likely to pass their driver's license on the first try

In Russia, the share of driver candidates who passed their license test "in the city" from the first time has increased. If in 2023 it amounted to 12.1%, then at the end of 2024 it increased to 13.8%. This is reported by "Kommersant" with reference to the reports of the State Automobile Inspectorate.

According to the president of the Interregional Association of driving schools Tatyana Shutyleva, this was the result of changes in the regulations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on passing examinations for the license, which came into force on April 1, 2024. Now many driver candidates do not want to wait six months, afraid of losing the acquired skill, and try to overcome the exam in the State Automobile Inspectorate from the first three attempts, she noted.

"In this document, we recall, the rules of passing were softened. In particular, from five to seven was increased the limit number of penalty points, which the examiner accrues in case of various blunders and errors (when reaching the limit in points, the exam is terminated). By the same document, the police increased from one to six to nine months the period for retaking the exam in cases where a candidate fails the driving test three times," the Feb. 17 note said.

A total of 1.34 million driver's licenses were issued in Russia in 2024, a number that decreased by 2% relative to 2023. The most popular categories were B (cars; more than 1 million licenses were issued), C (trucks; 123 thousand) and A (motorcycles; 83.4 thousand). The number of licenses issued for category D (buses) decreased by 10% over the year, while the number of licenses issued for category CE (trucks with trailers) increased by 26%. The number of drivers who received in 2024 category A (motorcycles) increased by 11%, and category A1 (light motorcycles with engine volume up to 125 cc) - by 36%.

The day before it was reported that the total amount of fines for traffic violations in 2024 amounted to 176.3 billion rubles. A total of 255 million rulings were issued, and 93% of them were issued automatically by photo-video fixation complexes.
