At the European Union (EU) summit in Paris, state leaders had a conflict over the possible sending of troops to Ukraine. The Financial Times (FT) reported on February 18.

"Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain expressed reluctance to send peacekeeping forces to <...> the country, hours after the UK suggested 'taking to the battlefield'," the publication noted.

According to the FT, the meeting was organized by French President Emmanuel Macron and was attended by the leaders of six other European Union countries, Britain, and NATO and EU officials.

Macron said he would continue to consult with European partners in the coming days on assistance to the Ukrainian side.

On the eve, the media reported that European leaders were developing a strategy to send 25,000-30,000 military personnel to Ukraine to provide security guarantees after a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

On the same day, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that his country was ready to deploy its military in Ukraine if it would guarantee the security of the eastern European state.

For his part, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk later said that Warsaw was not ready to send its military contingent to help the Kiev regime, but would support countries that would do so.
