Acting head of the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) Michelle King left her post because of a conflict with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This was reported by The Washington Post(WP) on February 18.

"According to sources, Michelle King, who has worked at the agency for several decades, has left her post because of disagreements [with DOGE]," the publication reported.

It is specified that the conflict was over DOGE's attempts to gain access to confidential government records.

The Social Security Administration is responsible for pension payments to more than 70 million American retirees. The agency also manages significant amounts of personal data, including data related to work and pay history and where citizens live.

On Feb. 13, Reuters learned of Musk's call to eliminate some government agencies. Which agencies should be eradicated, the billionaire did not specify. He noted that the power of bureaucracy, not democracy, flourishes in the United States, and he sees the task of the presidential administration in reducing the size of the federal government. Also the day before, NBC News reported that Trump signed an executive order expanding Musk's authority within his DOGE activities.
