Economist names advantages of foreign brands returning to Russia


Foreign brands can return to Russia at any time, as there are no legal restrictions for their work in the country. This was reported on February 17 by Igor Balynin, candidate of economic sciences, associate professor of the Department of Public Finance of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
"The fact of the return or non-return of foreign brands does not have any high significance. I am convinced that we do not need to think about it. First of all, some foreign brands have decided to leave on their own, and there is no any ban on carrying out activities in Russia, so they can return at any time. By the way, many with strategic thinking did not leave one way or another. Secondly, the departure of certain brands has become one of the additional drivers of development of domestic production," - said the economist in a conversation with "Gazeta.Ru".
According to him, additional competition is a key element of the economy, and Russia, unlike some Western countries, does not impose restrictions against foreign companies, maintaining openness for trade and economic relations. At the same time, foreign brands, if they decide to return, will face serious competition from Russian manufacturers, which are actively developing and modernizing technologies.
Balynin noted that thanks to this trend, labor productivity is growing, wages are increasing, and the positions of Russian companies in the technological sphere are strengthening, which ultimately contributes to improving the quality of life of citizens.
In addition, the expert said that the decision on the return of foreign brands remains at the discretion of the companies themselves, while the priority for Russia should remain the development of its own production.
Earlier in the day, analysts of the Kokoc Group platform predicted a massive return of foreign companies to Russia. In 2025, 350 foreign brands, which left the Russian market in 2022, may return to the country. At the same time, some large companies, returning to Russia, risk facing serious problems.
