The family of the former motor racer, seven-time champion of "Formula 1" Michael Schumacher appealed against the court decision in the case of attempted blackmail. This was reported by the magazine Stern on February 17.

"We have appealed against the verdict, which in our opinion was too lenient. What still shocks me most of all is the massive breach of trust. He should be punished for it to deter potential copycats," said the racer's wife Corinna Schumacher.

According to the publication, the defendant was given a two-year suspended sentence for aiding and abetting an attempt to extort the family.

The appeal aims to get the family's former security guard convicted of complicity. Judge Birgit Neubert noted in the sentencing reasoning that he had contributed most to the crime by abusing trust.

The Schumacher family was blackmailed with the publication of personal photos and videos. The extortionists demanded €15 million or the images would have been published. Stern notes that the criminals seized 900 photos and about 600 videos of the family, as well as digitized medical records of Michael Schumacher. At the same time, one hard disk was missing.

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher suffered a serious head injury in December 2013 while skiing in the French Alps. Schumacher's family is hiding everything that is happening to him. In December 2023, Ralf Schumacher noted that his brother would not be able to return to a full life.
