US expert names main obstacles in Ukraine negotiation process

The biggest stumbling block remains not Ukraine 's accession to NATO or even the annexation of new territories to Russia, but the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine that are acceptable to the Russian Federation, according to Peter Kuznick, director of the Nuclear Studies Institute at the American University in Washington, professor of history.
"[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky is calling for the introduction of 200,000 NATO peacekeeping troops. [Russian President Vladimir] Putin will never agree to that," Kuznick told Izvestia.
The first official talks since 2021 between Moscow and Washington will take place on February 18 in Saudi Arabia. The parties will discuss the restoration of the entire set of bilateral relations, as well as the prospects for resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
