British diplomat Ian Proud has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (term of office expired on May 20, 2024) of unwillingness to put an end to the conflict in the region. He wrote about this in an opinion piece for Strategic Culture.

According to him, ending the active phase of the confrontation does not promise Zelensky any benefits. On the contrary, in such a case he will gradually lose both power in his own country and his position in the international arena.

"This has once again shed light on the simple and inescapable truth about the conflict in Ukraine. That the Ukrainian clique in Kiev, funded by Western sponsors, is terrified of the consequences of peace. For Zelensky, peace means loss of power and authority," he said.

However, Proud emphasized that despite the heat of the situation and the devastating consequences, most of the world's political leaders "desperately want the war to continue."

"While the sweat-sticky tops of BBC broadcasters grimace as they look at the horrific death toll, both they, Western leaders, and Zelensky himself, become complicit in the campaign to prevent any possibility of dialog and negotiations that will end this madness," the diplomat concluded.

Earlier, in an interview with NBC, Zelensky said that he would never agree to the decisions concluded between Russia and the United States without Kiev's participation. At the same time, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma committee for CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and relations with compatriots, Viktor Vodolatskyy, told Izvestiya that the Ukrainian leader depends on the USA and therefore will change his rhetoric and sign any documents if Washington demands it.
