The European Union plans to consider a new initiative to provide military aid to Ukraine. This was reported by the PAP news agency on 17 February, citing a draft of the relevant document.

It is specified that the initiative envisages financing the supply of military equipment for Kiev at the expense of EU countries' contributions, as well as frozen Russian assets. In total, this way it is planned to spend about €900 million, which will be allocated for military needs until the end of 2025.

Among the possible options for assistance are supplies of ammunition, missiles and drones, as well as training of personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and investments in Ukraine's military-industrial industry.

According to the agency, the discussion of the initiative is scheduled for January 18.

On the same day, the Bloomberg agency reported that the EU was developing a large aid package for Ukraine. Also earlier, the Institute for the World Economy (IfW) said that over the past three years, the West had allocated about €267bn in aid to Ukraine.
