French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanen criticized the massage of prisoners on Valentine's Day in one of the French prisons. This was reported on February 17 by the publication Figaro.

It is indicated that last week 20 inmates of one of the prisons in the Toulouse area received a free facial massage. Later, the union of prison workers publicly condemned this initiative, while comparing the colony to a luxury hotel.

"Entertaining activities that shock all our fellow citizens are out of the question. I was deeply shocked when I learned that this is a free activity that was offered locally," the publication quoted Darmanen as saying during a visit to the Conde-sur-Sart prison.

The minister added that the inmates' activities will now be limited to sports inside the prison, education and work activities.

Earlier, on January 18, CNN reported that Japanese retirees have begun to intentionally commit petty crimes for the sake of time in prison. The reason is that the elderly do not have enough small pension to live on - at the same time in prison they are regularly fed and treated for free.
