The full-fledged operation of the largest international payment systems Visa and Mastercard cannot be restored in Russia. This opinion was expressed by Mikhail Delyagin, deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, on Monday, February 17. He also named the condition for their partial return to the country.

According to the parliamentarian, if they want to return, they must, first of all, compensate for the material and moral damage inflicted on Russia during these three years, which will be assessed in the country.

"And, secondly, they must restore external settlements. We don't need them for settlements with China, but for settlements with Europe and other countries they are quite sufficient. This is their narrow sphere of specialization. From my point of view, they should not be allowed to Russian domestic settlements, because we must proceed from the fact that they are spy organizations, as well as SWIFT," the deputy said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

Earlier in the day, the head of the State Duma Committee on Financial Market Anatoly Aksakov suggested that Visa and Mastercard payment systems may return to Russia in the near future, RT reports. The deputy pointed out that these two companies have lost a large market, but to enter it anew will be more difficult, because in Russia have already gotten used to their new systems, which have shown efficiency, reports NSN.

At the same time, analysts of the Kokoc Group platform predicted a massive return of foreign companies to Russia, reports IA Regnum. In 2025, 350 foreign brands may return to the country, which left the Russian market in 2022, writes Life.Ru. At the same time, some large companies, returning to Russia, risk facing serious problems. This is especially true for brands that offer everyday goods.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that the possible return of foreign brands is an ordinary trade practice and their competition with Russian manufacturers would benefit consumers, reports 360.ru.
