Scam artists in Russia have started using digital ruble schemes

The first cybercrimes related to the topic of the digital ruble have been recorded in Runet. Schemes involving the sale of flash drives allegedly containing digital rubles, various forms of quasi-investment, phishing and other fraud formats have already appeared, Igor Bederov, head of the department of information and analytical research at T. Hunter, told Izvestia. Hunter Igor Bederov.
"At the moment we see separate scam resources, where attackers use the topic of "digital ruble" as bait. For example, on one fake resource users were offered "easy earnings" thanks to it - 10 thousand rubles "already today". The fake page says that people have already received more than 500 billion rubles under the program," - told "Izvestia" content analyst of "Kaspersky Lab" Tatiana Shcherbakova.
Other types of fraud include phishing sites that offer to save their savings and provide consulting services on the digital ruble, spam mailings offering to buy it at a favorable exchange rate, the sale of drives allegedly storing digital rubles, and phone scams offering to transfer savings to a "safe digital account." The digital ruble is expected to start being used in Russia from July 1, 2025 - by which time banks will have to enable their customers to make payments using this means. But there are no plans to forcibly transfer transactions of individuals in Russia to the digital ruble.
