Political analyst called Vance's speech at the Munich conference a blow to the European Union

US Vice President J.D. Vance's speech at the Munich Security Conference criticizing the association was a blow for the European Union (EU). Political scientist, political technologist and publicist Natalia Eliseeva told Izvestia on February 17.

According to her, the Munich conference has long since moved away from the goals that were originally laid out in its holding.

"The US vice president's speech criticizing the European Union, of course, it became such a pretty big blow <...>. The European Union thought that when [ U.S. President Donald Trump] comes into his power, becomes a full-fledged president, he will build a normal relationship with the European Union. It turned out, let's say, somewhat differently, because the United States as a whole is not going to orient itself on anyone," Eliseeva said.

The political scientist also pointed out that Vance by his speech conveyed to Europe that the threat to the EU is itself, not Russia or China.

"In fact, everything that the Democrats used to build, support, sponsor, now [the U.S. Republican Party] will try to remake. And for Europe it is, in fact, just a complete collapse," the expert noted.

According to her, the EU is left to reorient itself and build relations with the new American administration. Otherwise, Brussels will continue to listen to such criticism from Washington, the political scientist noted.

The day before, on February 16, during the closing ceremony of the Munich Security Conference, its chairman, Christoph Heusgen, became emotional over fears that the EU will no longer have the same "common value base" and cried. He also said the meeting was a "European nightmare."

Dee Vance criticized Europe for the migration crisis, the abandonment of traditional values and the collapse of the principles of democracy in the countries of the association.
