Austria honored the memory of Soviet General Dmitry Karbyshev

A rally was held in Austria, where participants honored the memory of Hero of the Soviet Union, Lieutenant General of Engineering Troops Dmitry Karbyshev. This was reported to Izvestia in the Russian House in Vienna.

The event was attended by Russian and Austrian activists, as well as representatives of the Russian and Belarusian embassies in Vienna. They laid wreaths and flowers at the plaque and monument to Karbyshev on the territory of the former German concentration camp Mauthausen.

"This is the personification of the Russian character that does not give up. It is the personification of the whole country," emphasized Valentina Postnikova, director of the school at the Russian Embassy in Austria named after D.M. Karbyshev.

In the summer of 1941, seriously wounded Karbyshev found himself in German captivity. He was kept in the most brutal concentration camps, the Germans unsuccessfully tried to attract the general to cooperate. On February 18, 1945, he, as well as some other prisoners of the concentration camp Mathausen, was taken out on the platz and began to pour water in the cold. After the torture, the general was killed.
