The digital ruble cannot "burn" and will not become a mandatory means of payment for citizens. This was stated by Alla Bakina, Director of the Department of the National Payment System of the Central Bank (CB) of Russia, on the air of Channel One on February 17.

"The digital ruble has no statute of limitations, a person has the right to spend this money when he or she sees fit. This, by the way, is an answer to the question that digital rubles will burn in a matter of days. No, of course they won't. This is a fake and does not correspond to reality," Bakina said.

She emphasized that the funds on the digital account belong exclusively to its owner, and only he can dispose of them.

In addition, all references to the allegedly possible in the future forced transfer of all budget payments to the digital ruble are rumors, reports "Gazeta.Ru". Making the use of digital national currency forced has never been envisioned.

The head of the Central Bank department pointed out that fraudsters have become active around the topic of the digital ruble, who take information about it out of context and twist it in their favor. Because of this, it is very important to raise awareness of citizens and clarification.

Bakina reminded that the digital ruble is a digital form of the usual Russian currency. One digital ruble is equal to one cash or non-cash ruble and is simply an additional settlement option. Citizens will choose which form of Russian money they want to use.

Earlier, on February 4, the Central Bank reported about the growing number of myths about the digital ruble. They are most often spread in social networks, and publications are supplemented with excerpts from the legislation in order to inspire confidence in the reader.

Konstantin Borodulin, managing director of ratings of financial institutions of the NRA rating service, told Izvestia on January 29 about the prospects of the digital ruble. For example, its use will reduce banks' costs for various operations, including cross-border settlements with friendly states.
