Divers have patched two of the three breaches on the wrecked Koala tanker

Divers managed to fix two out of three holes on the foreign tanker Koala, which had an incident in the port of Ust-Luga, Morspassluzhba reported on February 17.

"Divers from the Baltic branch of Morspassluzhba have fixed two of the three holes on the emergency tanker Koala. A leak test is underway," - stated in the Telegram-channel of the agency.

Now began repair of the last hole on the left side of the ship. It is planned to complete the elimination of all damage to the hull on the outside by the end of the day. In addition, pumping out water from the cargo pump shaft on the starboard side will be started soon.

"This will open access to the interior to start inspecting it. Earlier pumped out three stern tanks of fresh water - a total of 300 cubic meters," - said in the agency.

Earlier, on February 9, it was reported that the tanker Koala, on board which is 130 thousand tons of fuel oil, sinking in the port of Ust-Luga. Later, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, said that the ship's engine had failed, resulting in damage to the engine room. He noted that the tanker was moored at the berth and there was no threat of oil spillage.

The press service of the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport reported that booms were installed around the tanker. It was noted that the cargo tanks of the tanker are not damaged and there is no threat of flooding. In addition, Rosmorrechflot reported that there were no casualties as a result of the incident.

After, February 11, the Ministry of Transport of Russia reported that during the inspection of the emergency tanker Koala was not recorded leaks of oil products. It was noted that Morspassluzhba specialists are working on the issue of pumping out 130 thousand tons of fuel oil, which is on board the wrecked vessel. At the same time it was noted that by order of the captain of the sea port of Ust-Luga Igor Zolotykh, the owner of the tanker Koala was obliged to remove the vessel from the water area within three months.
