The Russian government has authorized the use of biometrics for boarding a train

The Russian government has authorized the use of biometric data for boarding a train. The corresponding decree was approved by the government, the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Grigorenko told reporters on February 17.
It noted that it will be possible to use the service after the completion of all technical tests, which will take place this year.
"The government has authorized the use of biometrics for boarding the train, if the rail carrier has such a technical possibility. <...> The relevant decree has been approved," the text of the message is quoted by TASS.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister indicated that the service will be available to users of the Unified Biometric System. At the same time, the other ways of boarding the train will remain.
As "Gazeta.Ru" specifies , biometrics will become an alternative to presenting a paper ticket or passport, but will not replace them - the passenger will always be able to choose the most preferable way of receiving the service.
The Central Bank (CB) of Russia sees a steady trend towards the use of biometric technologies, the regulator's press service told Izvestia on January 20. It noted that payment preferences of citizens are changing, and the share of non-cash payments is redistributed in favor of alternative (non-card) methods of non-cash payment, including bio-acquiring.
