Hungary opposes Ukraine's admission to NATO and the EU

Ukraine should not be a NATO member, it should not be admitted to the European Union (EU) yet either, as it does not meet the requirements. Tamás Mencer, a representative of Hungary's ruling FIDES party, said on February 17.
"Should Ukraine join NATO? Should Ukraine join the EU? It should not!" - he wrote on his Facebook page (part of Meta, recognized as an extremist organization and banned in Russia).
Mencer noted that US President Donald Trump opposes Ukraine 's intention to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
"The Trump administration has made it clear: Ukraine's membership in NATO is unrealistic," Mentser continued.
The party spokesman believes that now Washington, unlike Brussels, is guided by common sense and proceeds from reality.
"Brussels bureaucrats and politicians in favor of <conflict> cannot and do not want to see their mistakes. Brussels wants to continue <conflict>, to get even more money to fund it instead of America. This is just amazing!" - the FIDES spokesperson added.
Earlier, on January 21, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Ukraine is not yet ready to join the EU, and he is not ready to join it. According to him, the EU does not have the money to accept Kiev. In addition, he urged Ukraine to first settle relations with Slovakia and Hungary.
Ukraine officially applied for EU membership on February 28, 2022.
