Tushino district court sentenced the members of the "Chameleon gang," Natalia Kotova and Natalia Eremenko, to 14 and 6 years of general regime, reported a correspondent of "Izvestia" on February 17.
The women are accused of fraud on a large scale (part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Eremenko is also convicted of organizing a criminal association (part 1 of article 210 of the Criminal Code). Kotova was found guilty of legalization (laundering) of money or other property acquired by a person as a result of committing a crime by an organized group on a particularly large scale (part 4, a) b) of article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
According to the investigation, the fraud scheme was as follows: first, the criminals gained access to the apartments, then they registered them to new, formal owners. And then they tried to sell them.
According to witnesses, the members of the gang of "chameleons" have connections in the MFC and in the cadastral chamber, thanks to them they forged documents. Also, according to them, Natalia Kotova changed her appearance and introduced herself as the owner of the apartment for the realtor.
