In Moscow, the police detained a 19-year-old resident of Kostroma, who helped fraudsters to cheat a 20-year-old resident of the capital for more than 50 million rubles. This was reported in the capital's press service of the Main Department of the Russian Interior Ministry on February 17.

"Criminal investigation officers of the Department of Internal Affairs in the Northern District of the capital and the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Sokol district detained a 19-year-old native of Kostroma on suspicion of assisting remote fraudsters in deceiving a 20-year-old resident of the capital for more than 50 million rubles," - stated in the message.

According to investigators, the girl received a call from the alleged representative of the cellular operator to extend the contract of communication. After she dictated the code from the sms-message, but then the data of the victim was taken over by fraudsters. Also in the conversation she mentioned that there was a safe and jewelry in her apartment.

Then the girl received a call from the law enforcement agency and was informed that allegedly on her behalf the fraudsters were transferring money to finance illegal activities. In order to avoid responsibility for this, the girl was persuaded to hand over jewelry, cash, and a safe to a stranger who came to her house and movers. Some time later, the victim of fraud reported the incident to her parents, who contacted the police.

It is noted that law enforcement agencies were able to detain the accomplice of fraudsters. However, the detainee on the instructions of the curators took the property of the victims and transferred the money into cryptocurrency to send funds to co-conspirators.

The agency added that part of the jewelry was seized, the rest of the jewels the suspect managed to sell. A criminal case has been opened over the incident. The suspect is in custody for further proceedings.

Earlier, February 11, a source of "Izvestia" reported that in Moscow, fraudsters swindled a 91-year-old pensioner out of more than 16 million rubles, convincing him that the employees of the district department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are envoys from Ukraine, who work for the U.S. State Department. A criminal case has been opened over the incident.
