More than 185.5 thousand tons of sand and soil contaminated as a result of the wreck of tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" were collected from the beaches of Crimea and Kuban. This was reported on February 17 in the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
It noted that more than 144.4 thousand tons were taken out to temporary storage sites. A total of 358 km of coastline has been cleaned since the beginning of work to eliminate the consequences of the oil spill in the Kerch Strait, the ministry said.
It is specified that in the Krasnodar region continue to survey 265 km of the coast.
"To protect the coast from fuel oil emissions during a storm on the beaches of Anapa and Temryuksky district is equipped with a bulk shaft with protective nets for the collection of small fractions of fuel oil," - said in the Telegram-channel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.
The agency added that 215 km of coastline was cleaned in the Republic of Crimea. A total of 721 tons of contaminated sand and soil were collected.
"In Sevastopol surveyed 165 km of coastline, collected and removed 662.5 tons of pollution," - emphasizes the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia.
Earlier, on February 7, it was reported that on the Black Sea coast in the Krasnodar region, Crimea and Sevastopol at 15 sites found new emissions of fuel oil. The day before, emissions of small fragments of fuel oil were found on several sections of beaches in Anapa.
Tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" due to bad weather crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15, 2024. The incident resulted in a spill of oil products. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
Two days later, by the morning of December 17, oil products reached the shores of Anapa and Temryuksky district, and then Crimea. On December 26, a federal emergency regime was declared. Putin called the fuel oil spill in the Black Sea one of the most serious environmental challenges for the country in recent years.
