Criminal case initiated over attempted sabotage in Nizhny Novgorod region


A criminal case has been opened against two residents of Nizhny Novgorod Region, suspected of attempted sabotage. This was reported by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko on February 17.
She specified that the defendants tried to set fire to relay cabinets on one of the tracks of the Gorky railroad. During this they were detained by officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the region and the transport department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Volga Federal District. Investigative actions are currently underway.
"The Investigative Committee of Russia together with other law enforcement agencies is taking comprehensive measures to counteract criminal manifestations encroaching on public security," Petrenko emphasized.
She added that similar crimes are being investigated in more than nine regions of the country. In total, last year investigators of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation sent 429 criminal cases on terrorist offenses to court. This figure is 40% more than in 2023.
On January 30, FSB officers detained a Russian in the Moscow region who had committed a series of sabotage on the instructions of Ukrainian security services. On their instructions, the man set fire to a military tractor under repair, a railroad relay cabinet, a cell phone tower and a warehouse of a Russian Defense Ministry enterprise. A criminal case has been opened against the detainee.
