Heavy precipitation, wind strengthening and ice are predicted in the regions of the Southern, Volga, North Caucasus and Far Eastern Federal Districts at the beginning of the week. This was reported on February 17 by the scientific head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand.

According to him, in the Rostov region and Krasnodar Krai, belonging to the Southern Federal District, heavy precipitation in the form of rain and sleet, wind strengthening up to 27 m/s and icy conditions are expected. Such weather is due to the fact that during the day the thermometer columns are around 0 degrees, while at night the temperature drops to -8 degrees.

"Directly for Sochi such a forecast has been issued: through Tuesday inclusive - very heavy snow in the foothills and mountains, heavy accumulation of wet snow," - the forecaster specified in conversation with TASS.

Vilfand added that in the North Caucasus Federal District rain, wet snow, sleet, snow, as well as sticking wet snow, ice and wind strengthening up to 20 m/s are forecast. In the Volga Federal District, as explained meteorologist, bad weather is expected in the south. Heavy precipitation up to 25 mm will be observed in Tatarstan and Orenburg, Samara and Ulyanovsk regions.

In addition, Vilfand noted that in Primorsky Krai the wind may increase to 20-25 m/s.

The scientific head of the Hydrometeorological Center also predicted frost in the European part of the country this week. According to him, the temperature will drop significantly below the norm due to the movement of air masses from the north.
