The issue of Cyprus' accession to NATO is not currently being discussed in the country's parliament. This was stated to "Izvestia" in the press service of the Progressive Party of the Labor People of Cyprus, which has the second largest faction in the House of Representatives of the Republic.

"This issue may be discussed by representatives of a political party, but in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus it is not considered as such now," - said in the party.

In October 2024, Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulidis presented to the Joe Biden administration a plan for the country to join NATO. Then, last November, he officially announced Nicosia's intention to join the alliance, saying that talks with Washington were already underway. However, since the return of Donald Trump as American president, the issue has not been raised in the public space by the Cypriot authorities.
