The US says it intends to return funds invested in aid to Ukraine

The USA expects Ukraine to reimburse all the funds spent on assistance in the conflict through investments. This was reported on February 16 by the adviser of the American leader Donald Trump Mike Waltz on the air of the TV channel Fox News.
"The American people deserve reparations, deserve to be compensated in some way for the billions they have invested in this conflict," the adviser said.
He added that the best solution for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, whose term of office expired on May 20, is to conclude a treaty with the U.S. government to transfer minerals to the United States and jointly develop their deposits.
In addition, Waltz said, the United States, unlike Europe, provided aid to Ukraine without any initial conditions, while European countries formalized loans that will have to be repaid sooner or later.
Trump requested access to Ukraine's rare earth metals in exchange for Washington's help on February 3. Later, on February 14, it became known that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired on May 20, 2024) refused to sign a document provided by the U.S. side, according to which the States would have received rights to half of the Ukrainian resources not yet mined. Reuters reported that the parties agreed to finalize some details of the agreement.
