Nine people have died as a result of the storm in the US

Eight people died in the U.S. state of Kentucky and one in Georgia as a result of a powerful storm that caused flooding. This was reported by CNN on February 16.

"We need Kentucky residents to be on alert. More than 300 roads are closed. The consequences for the entire state are historic," - wrote the Governor of the state Andy Beshear in the social network X (former Twitter).

The state's emergency services have already carried out more than 1,000 rescues in the last 24 hours. The state government believes the number of casualties and fatalities will rise.

"The impact is massive across the state, hundreds of people have been rescued on the water, there are numerous casualties. Evacuations continue as this event continues through today," Beshear wrote on social network X (formerly Twitter).

Water levels in several areas of Kentucky reached an all-time high on Feb. 15. According to Kentucky Emergency Management Director Eric Gibson, this weather will continue in the state for several more days.

Beshear declared a state of emergency in Kentucky before the storm began Friday. And on Feb. 16, he thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for approving a federal disaster declaration, providing federal aid funding to affected areas.

In Georgia, one person died overnight in Atlanta when a large tree fell on a home due to thunderstorm activity in the area. According to Atlanta Fire Captain Scott Powell, fire units found the man trapped inside the home. An operation to extricate the victim from the home, resulted in his death.
