- Reuters has learned about a US poll of EU countries on the topic of sending troops to Ukraine

TheUSA has sent a survey to the EU member states on providing security guarantees to Ukraine and also asked them about their readiness to send their troops to the frontline. This was reported by Reuters on February 16.
"The diplomatic demarche consisted of six questions about which countries could contribute to security guarantees, which are willing to send troops to Ukraine as part of a peaceful settlement, and what size the European-led contingent could be," the material said.
In addition, the European authorities specified what new sanctions they could introduce against Russia, and what already existing restrictions to tighten.
The Agency notes that the leaders of European countries have previously expressed their willingness to provide security guarantees to Kiev only with the support of Washington. In this regard, the U.S. leadership in the survey specifies what kind of support they need.
The Associated Press reported on February 15 that a group of political elites from Great Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Poland, as well as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (his term of office expired in May 2024) discussed the possible dispatch of troops to Ukraine. It was specified that, first of all, the composition and role of the forces that might be sent depends on whether Moscow and Kiev will be able to agree on the terms in the course of negotiations.
On 16 February, the head of the Crimean interethnic mission, Zaur Smirnov, said that NATO forces were trying to enter Ukraine under the guise of a peacekeeping mission. He also pointed out that the alliance's troops should not be in Ukraine no matter what formal cover they would use.
