The Independent has named Trump's possible successors in 2028

On February 16, the British newspaper The Independent analyzed the circle of US President Donald Trump's closest supporters and presented possible candidates from the Republican Party in the presidential race in 2028.
One of them could be Trump himself, who has repeatedly, mostly in jest, hinted that he may run again in the future. Plus, the U.S. Supreme Court is led by a conservative majority that could very readily rewrite several clauses in the U.S. Constitution.
Also, a possible Republican nominee could be Donald Trump, Jr. who was heavily involved in establishing Vice President Jay Dee Vance as Trump's running mate from his earliest days in politics. So if Vance "flounders," his base of support would likely go to Trump Jr. in a heartbeat.
The publication calls Florida Governor Ron Desantis another possible candidate. According to The Independent, the governor's worst quality in Trump's eyes, namely his standing against the president in 2024, is also his greatest asset. That said, Desantis doesn't have strong alliances within the Republican Party.
The publication considers one of the strongest candidates to be current U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. He served two terms in the House of Representatives and was re-elected for a third term in 2022, and clearly has presidential ambitions. In addition, he has a large number of supporters in the Republican Party. But his main weakness is the least loyalty to Trump's MAGA (Make America Great Again) project, the publication concludes.
Pavel Feldman, a candidate of political science and professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, admitted on January 24 that Trump is more likely not to run for a third term in office. According to him, neither Democrats nor his associates will appreciate this idea.
