Ukraine 's national basketball team player Volodymyr Konev was taken off the train to Latvia and taken to the territorial recruitment center (TCC, an analogue of a military recruitment office). This was reported by the Tribuna.ua news and analysis website on 16 February.
It noted that Konev, a forward of the Dnipro basketball club, was on his way to the Eurobasket-2025 qualifying match against Slovenia, which is scheduled for February 21.
BC President Valery Kondratyev said that the athlete had a reservation from mobilization from the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
"The situation with Vladimir Konev has been resolved, and now the player is heading to Dnipro. Unfortunately, Vladimir will not be able to play for the Ukrainian national team in this window. <...> I hope this situation will not happen again," - later said the President of the basketball club, his words are reported by the Ukrainian edition.
Earlier, on February 7, it was reported that in Kiev local employees of the TCC began to stop cars with military conscripts right during the movement.
Martial law in Ukraine has been in effect since February 2022. Then the President of the country Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired in May 2024) signed a decree on general mobilization. Later, the Verkhovna Rada repeatedly extended its effect. Most men between the ages of 18 and 60 are forbidden to leave the country. In April 2024, the head of the Kiev regime approved the law on tougher mobilization.
