Re-voting in Abkhazia's presidential election after the first round will tentatively take place on March 1, the republic's Central Election Commission (CEC) said on February 16.

"There will be a repeat voting. The second round, according to preliminary data, will be held on March 1," chairman of the republic's CEC Dmitry Marshan said at a briefing.

According to preliminary data of the Central Election Commission of Abkhazia, the turnout at the elections amounted to almost 69%. Almost 99 thousand voters took part in the voting.

It is noted that former vice-president of the republic Badra Gunba gained 46.38% of the votes according to preliminary calculations of the results of the first round of elections, former Minister of Economy Adgur Ardzinba - 36.92%, former trade representative of Abkhazia in Russia Oleg Bartsits - 4.04%, former chairman of the control chamber of the republic Robert Arshba - 7.53%, and chairman of the board of the Black Sea Development Bank Adgur Hurkhumal - almost 1%.

Earlier in the day, CEC chairman Dmitry Marshan said that no candidate won more than half of the votes in the presidential election in Abkhazia, and therefore a second round will be held.

International expert Salvatore Cittadino called the elections in Abkhazia transparent and democratic.
