- NYT reported on the discussion of a deal to ease sanctions between the U.S. and Belarus

TheUnited States and Belarus are allegedly preparing a big deal to ease the restrictions imposed by Washington against Minsk. This was reported by the American newspaper The New York Times on February 15.
According to the newspaper, Smith met with Western diplomats in Vilnius on Thursday, February 13, where he said that a big deal was possible, during which Minsk would release American prisoners, while Washington, in turn, would ease its sanctions against Belarusian banks and exports of potash - the main element of potash fertilizer, which is produced in the republic.
The U.S. State Department has not responded to the newspaper's request on this topic, reports "Gazeta.Ru."
Earlier, January 27, Britain and Canada imposed sanctions against Belarus after the presidential elections. They affected politicians, government agencies and some companies of the republic.
September 27, 2024 Lukashenko called the Western sanctions against Belarus fascism. The president noted that the restrictions were imposed not just against himself, but against all citizens of the republic.
