Sociologist told about the growth of the limit for the calculation of sick pay up to 2.225 million rubles

The maximum limit of a person's income, from which the amount of temporary disability benefits is calculated, has increased to Br2.225 million from 2025. This was reported on February 16 by Marina Lopatina, an expert of the Institute of Social Analysis and Forecasting of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

She specified that the payment of sick leave is calculated on the level of wages for the previous two years, as well as on the total experience of the employee's seniority.

"That is, if now a person applies for sick leave, child care allowance, it is important his income in 2023 and 2024. But if in one or both years the income is more than the legal limit, it will go into the calculation. <...> In 2023, the limit was 1.917 million rubles, in 2024 - 2.225 million rubles," - quotes the words of the expert "RIA Novosti".

Lopatina added that in 2025 the maximum payment that a person can receive for one day of sick leave is Br5.7 thousand. She noted that this amount is affected only by the labor income of the employee, from which his employer pays contributions.

In addition, the sociologist reported that the minimum amount, which a person can receive for one day of temporary disability, is Br737.75, multiplied by the district coefficient.

Lopatina also specified that when the wage is lower than the minimum wage or when the labor experience does not exceed six months, the average earnings per day will be calculated taking into account the minimum wage. This year it increased by 16.6% and amounted to 22,440 rubles.

On December 27, 2024, the Russian Ministry of Labor proposed to launch a three-year experiment in 2026 to provide the self-employed with paid sick leave. Participation in the experiment will require them to pay insurance contributions. The self-employed will be able to receive paid sick leave six months after these payments begin.
