An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.6 was recorded near the coast of the southern Kuril Islands. This was reported on February 16 by the head of seismic station "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk" Elena Semenova.

"The epicenter of the tremors was in the Pacific Ocean 101 km south of the uninhabited Kuril island Simushir, the origin - at a depth of 62 km", - she pointed out in conversation with "RIA Novosti".

The specialist also noted that the danger of a tsunami was not announced, information about the sensitivity was not received.

Semenova reported about the earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 off the coast of the southern Kuril Islands on February 14. The epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean 197 km southwest of the island of Simushir. The origin was located at a depth of 62 km.
