Russian Alexander Vinnik, who was detained at the request of the United States in July 2017 when he was vacationing with his family in Greece, told Izvestia on February 16 about the charges he faced from the United States.

"There were a lot of points related to data theft, to computers, to data forgery, including I was acquitted on organized criminal group," Vinnik said.

He added that the entire process against him was based on "intimidation." According to him, the U.S. special services had no witnesses who could confirm the Russian's involvement in the crimes, as well as victims. Vinnik noted that the detention occurred because of his "work with dollars."

He specified that after the detention, according to the Greek constitution and rules he should have been sent to Russia. The Russian also stated that the US intelligence officers carried out the detention without documents and it was more like a "kidnapping".

"Should have been deported to Russia according to the Greek constitution and laws. Because if a case is opened against me in my home country, it takes precedence," Vinnik said.

More about the situation with Alexander Vinnik and his release - in the plot of "The Final program with Peter Marchenko" on February 17 at 00:00 on REN TV.

The release of Vinnik from prison after almost eight years of imprisonment became known on February 12. The Russian arrived in Moscow the next day. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that for Russia the return is a joyful event. He also emphasized the unreasonableness of Vinnik's imprisonment. Vinnik himself called his return a surprise and admitted that he missed his homeland.
