The Israeli Air Force (IAF) attacked the commander of an air unit of the Shiite Hezbollah movement in southern Lebanon. This was reported by the country's Defense Forces (IDF) press service on February 15.

"Some time ago, the Israeli Air Force carried out a precision strike on the central leader of Hezbollah's air unit in the area of southern Lebanon," the IDF said in a message in its Telegram channel.

It is specified that the attack was carried out in response to the commander directing the launching of drones in the direction of Israeli territory.

"The IDF continues to act to eliminate any threat to the state of Israel, and will continue to prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to establish itself, which contradicts the agreements reached between Israel and Lebanon," the Israeli army noted.

Five people were injured in an Israeli drone strike on the town of Majdal Selm in southern Lebanon on Jan. 29. Al Arabiya TV reported that the IDF also detained three people in the border town of Maroun al-Ras. On January 26, Lebanon's Health Ministry said 15 people were killed in Israeli shelling. It was specified that at least 80 people were wounded in different areas of the south of the country.

The situation in the Middle East escalated in the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
