U.S. presidential special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg on February 15 rejected criticism from Western countries over a phone call between U.S. leader Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling the call useful.

"It's very good, considering that [former US President Joe] Biden hasn't called Putin in three years," the special envoy said during his speech at the Munich Security Conference.

He added that all countries involved in the Ukraine conflict should be in contact with each other.

"In fact, whether you like it or not, you have to talk to both adversaries and friends," Kellogg added.

On February 12, the Russian president held a telephone conversation with the American leader. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the two leaders discussed many topics, including the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. Later, on February 14, French politician and leader of the Patriots party Florian Philippot said that after the phone conversation between Putin and Trump, the European Union went into hysterics.
