Russian fighter with the call sign Abkhaz noted the importance for Abkhaz of the union with the Russian Federation

The union of Russia and Abkhazia gives the republic prosperity and will help preserve its sovereignty. A serviceman of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with the call sign Abkhaz from the special operation zone told Izvestia on February 15.

The soldier admitted that he did not choose his call sign: it was fixed as a result of the fact that he was the only Abkhaz in his unit.

"I was born and raised in Rostov-on-Don, my whole family lives in Abkhazia, but I read the news, communicate with my relatives who are there. Everyone is in the direction of our great friend, everyone understands that this union will give Abkhazia prosperity, it is the only union that will help preserve the sovereignty of this country," he shared.

The serviceman added that Russia supplies Abkhazia with electricity and sends subsidies, which is highly appreciated by the residents of the republic.

On February 15, polling stations for the presidential election opened in Abkhazia. The candidates are former vice-president of the republic Badra Gunba, former economy minister Adgur Ardzinba, former trade representative of Abkhazia in Russia Oleg Bartsits, former chairman of the republic's control chamber Robert Arshba and chairman of the board of the Black Sea Development Bank Adgur Hurkhumal.

The head of the Central Election Commission of Abkhazia Dmitry Marshan recognized the presidential election as valid and said that the turnout as of 18:00 exceeded 55%.
