Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the contribution of warriors who took part in combat operations in Afghanistan to support servicemen participating in the special military operation (SMO). The head of state made the corresponding statement in a telegram published on the Kremlin website on February 15.

"I would like to emphasize your contribution in support of the participants of the special military operation," he wrote to the participants of the gala evening dedicated to the 36th anniversary of the completion of combat missions by the Limited Contingent of Soviet Troops in Afghanistan.

He also noted the contribution of the fighters to the education of young people, in-demand work in state authorities, veteran and public organizations. According to Putin, such a "firm patriotic position" is worthy of the most sincere recognition.

On February 9, a ceremony of awarding Sakhalin servicemen for their successes demonstrated during the performance of combat missions was held in the zone of the Strategic Defense Forces. Soldiers were awarded such state awards as the Order of Courage, medals "For Bravery" and Zhukov medals.
